Getting started is one of the biggest challenges you face when starting a new project. This can include anything from a new exercise program or a new task at work. However, there are a few things you can do that will help you to get started and stick with it.
Choose your goals carefully
In the begining choose things that you really care about and really want to achieve. It can also be helpful to start small and work your way up to difficult. As you begin to accomplish your goals you will gain more confidence and the whole process gets easier. Think of all the things you would like to accomplish, and then choose the three that will make you the most happy. Focus on those goals first.
The plan
If you do not clearly define your goals and how to achieve them, then there is a good chance that you will give up. Putting your goal and plan down on paper makes it real and allows you to clearly see the path to the rainbow and the pot of gold at the end. It will also make the task much easier to accomplish. I have found that the best way to do this is to write down my end result and then work backwards figuring out the steps I will need to take. Also create a backup plan if you get off track. For instance, two weeks into your new workout plan you get sick and are unable to do it while your sick. Have a backup plan to continue afterwards or create a plan you can do while you are sick.
Take the first step now
There will always be a million and one reasons why you can’t accomplish your goal and why another time will be better. if you really want to accomplish your goal: start now. Start this instant by writing down the things that are important to you. Once you have decided the things that are important then write down how to achieve them. There is no better time to start than NOW.
I would love to hear everyones methods for obtaining their goals and also any difficulties that you had.
In part one I talked about measuring wealth in time and freedom. In part two I will be discussing 5 ways to get started. As a quick note, I would like to mention I wrote this post on my itouch while commuting on the Tokyo metro.
1. Assess your bills and eliminate
Learn to live with less. Look over your expenses and eliminate anything that is not a necessity. When you think necessity, think stranded on an island and what you need to survive. You can always add things back later, but after some time without most things you will find they really aren’t that important.
2. Use cash/get rid of credit cards
Some people might disagree with this so let me explain. Credit cards allow you to spend money you don’t have. Stop carrying them with you. Set a monthly budget including lunch, gas, and spending money. Pull this amount out and don’t go over it. If it helps, only keep the daily amount in your pocket.
3. Create a want/dream list
Figuring out what you want and how much it costs will not only help you set some saving goals and focus your efforts, it also brings to light the things you purchase that aren’t important. Check out The Four Hour work Week for a dreamline template.
4. Make your money make money
There are a lot of things to invest in. Find something that interests you and learn about it. Talk to successful people who are investing in the fields you are interested in and learn from them. And don’t forget, one the best investments you can make is in yourself and your own education
5. Find cheap fun
Learn to enjoy life and have fun without spending money. You can find one list on cheap fun here. But don’t limit yourself to that list. Find something you enjoy and then find a way to do it cheaply. Or better yet get paid for it.
Sit back and watch your money grow! It seems difficult at first, but after you do it for a month then it gets much easier…and eventually fun.
I just stumbled Upon (quite literally) a cool site called MyOwnNicheSite.com. It is a site that does all the footwork in starting up a new website. you choose the type of site, and they do the rest including choosing the domain and setting it all up. The prices also seem to be quite reasonable. So anyone interested in creating their own site or company should take a look.
